Elegant Seating for Small Spaces
Improve a compact room through circulation, storage and measured seating choices, rather than filling every corner.

The design perspective
Choosing furniture for a small room does not mean using every available patch of floor. Begin by identifying entrances, windows, door swings and daily movement. Slender chairs, a round table or seating close to a wall can offer different advantages depending on the plan. Think about the space needed to sit down and stand up, rather than applying one compact-living formula to every room.
In everyday use
Stackable or folding pieces can provide flexibility, but their storage location and operating mechanism also need a place in the plan. Pale finishes and open backrests may bring visual lightness; comfort cannot be judged from that impression alone. Try several taped-out arrangements on the floor and pull a chair back to check the remaining route. If an extra seat makes movement awkward, a more restrained arrangement may serve the room better.
